Happy New Year to All!

Everyone at AmericanMeadows.com wishes you and yours a very happy 2004. To start off the year right, we're working hard to bring you lots of new and exciting things for your meadow gardening in the new year. Soon, for the first time, we'll have flowering trees and shrubs on our site, especially chosen for wildflower plantings. You've asked for it, so we'll also have an expanded selection of seed packets: herbs, vegetables, and hundreds of new garden flowers.

Sleeping with the Seed

It's "Ragweed", our cat at the Vermont Wildflower Farm. And who took this great photo? It was Ken and Charlotte Lane who visited the farm last fall, and found our cat snoozing in a basket of seed packets. After getting home, they entered their "Vermont Seed Cat" photo in the vacation photo contest at their workplace. And guess what? The Lanes won FIRST PLACE! Congratulations, Ken and Charlotte! And thanks for sharing your great shot with the rest of us.

Allison Teeple in Texas wins $200 drawing!

As we've been telling all our members in emails and on the homepage, we had our annual holiday drawing on December 20th. Everyone who had ordered during the holiday period was entered. The winner is Allison Teeple, and she has been contacted. She'll receive a basket of wildflower seed and gifts with a retail value over $200--a great start on spring planting! Congratulations Allison!

One Member's Meadow: Sonny Waller

Mr. Waller gardens in Lexington, KY, and has done a great job planting his American Meadows wildflower seeds in raised beds. These photos were taken back in July when his sulphur cosmos, cornflowers, and regular cosmos were in full bloom.

He tells us he plants his seeds in boxed beds, 18 X 4 feet, sided with 2 X 12's. The beds are watered by an emitter system connected to his sprinkler system, so the whole arrangement is quite carefree.

Thanks Mr. Waller, for such a great group of photos. We really appreciate sharing photos and gardening tips like these.

Send us your photos and gardening suggestions others might enjoy!

Tips for Last Minute Holiday Gifts

Our holiday "Free Gift" promotion is on until the 20th, so free stocking stuffers are yours with any order. But if you're looking for great gifts to rush to friends and family who don't need wildflower seed, go where I'm going. That's Jackson & Perkins who have wonderful little decorated and lighted living Christmas trees (several choices at reasonable prices), plus an incredible selection of potted bulbs and amaryllis. Our own Bulb Dept. is closed for the season, but you can click to J&P from our recommended link page. To get there, click on the Santa packet in our homepage top bar. It's a great internet shopping site. Enjoy!

Who created our exclusive "Santa" seed packet?

Lots of members have asked. And the answer is Vermont artist Rob Towne. Rob was on our staff as VP Horticulture for almost 20 years, and our "Seeds from Santa" is only one of his many artistic contributions to our products. He also did the exquisite botanical art on all our collection packets. Rob is a true wildflower expert, and many of our members remember his knowledge and cheerful help. But he is first and foremost an artist. We miss Rob these days at the office, but he's now doing what he loves best: painting full time.
